Tracheostomy in Non-malignant Disorders

Background: Tracheostomy is a surgical procedure, often life saving measure in variety of clinical conditions. It one the commonest procedures carried out on critically ill patient. The most common causes non-malignant airway obstruction are head and severe facial trauma, cerebrovascular accident, coma, respiratory burn presence foreign bodies etc. an increasingly utilised adjunct ICU management patients. Effective tracheostomy involved multi-professional team coordinated approach.
 Objectives: To study indications disorders.
 Study design: Cross-sectional study.
 setting period: Department Otolaryngorhinology Head- Neck surgery (Unit- 1,2,3), General Surgery, ICU, Casualty, Neurosurgery, Thoracic surgery, Burn & Plastic Surgery relevant OPD Dhaka Medical College Hospitalfrom6th September 2015 to 5th March 2016.
 Methods: A hospital based cross-sectional study. Fifty patients admitted hospital, underwent for factors. Purposive samplings technique was used. Detail demographic data were collected from informant recorded structured case record form. Clinical examination investigation done meticulously. All questionnaire checked very carefully identify error data. Data processing work consist registration schedules, editing computerization, preparation dummy table, analyzing matching data.
 Result: total 50 pathology causing patency loss different ward unit DMCH selected. In this study, maximum numbers (36%) between 51-70 years age groups with mean 47.23±11.57 years. observed that, frequency aetiology gradually increases age. show frequent group (36%). Out cases 82% male. Present that socioeconomically majority poor class (52%), highest percentage patient comprised day labourer (30%). Head trauma (12%) accidents (9%) etiological factor major aetilogical (50%),followed by, central drive problems or neurological disease (38%) elective done.
 Conclusion: found safer alternative intubation when prolonged artificial required.
